Free chat runs within your monthly allowance — great for exploring. Running objectives and tasks always requires a paid plan. Bringing your own API key (BYOK) covers your AI inference, but it does not unlock execution on its own — a plan is still required to put your team to work. Your remaining free usage is always visible in Settings.

BYOK or managed — which should I pick?

If you already use and have tuned specific providers — a ChatGPT or Claude account you want to carry over — go with BYOK: connect those keys and Foreman uses them. If you haven't, Foreman-managed works great out of the box — it intelligently routes each task to cost-optimized models based on benchmark scores, with nothing to set up (and you can still control which models it uses under Providers). Do you mark up AI usage on BYOK?

No. With your own keys, you pay your provider directly.
